Over time, I hope to develop unit pricing for more types of work. It was a big improvement when I discovered you could hide the parts of the spreadsheet you didn’t need. Thanx for creating the spreadsheet on Estimating & Budgeting. Your instructions were informative, easy to use and laid out for easy editing/additions. That was regarding the spreadsheet.
This second part is regarding you as an individual. I am mentioning this simply because it is a rare thing nowadays. When purchasing your spreadsheet, it indicated an error with payment via PayPal. So, I used a second card and that was successful. However, shortly after, I received an email from Steve at BuildingAdvisor stating that I was being refunded the amount of my second purchase. I did not realize that the original card i used had actually being charged.

Really enjoying the use of your spreadsheet. I have spread the word with a few of my fellow contractors and they love it too.
However, I find it limiting as I cannot share the worksheets with others.. Is there a way that I can be able to send it to my bookkeeper to work on and update budgets as I go through projects; she would need it to be writable.
Also wondering the about sending the worksheets to clients on coast-plus contracts; They would not need it to be writable.

To share a workbook with other uses, you first need to give permission. On older versions of Excel, the procedure is Review Tab > Share Workbook > Editing > Allow changes by more than one user. Then click OK. On Windows 365, it’s a little different: Changes > Review > Share Workbook > Allow changes by more than one user. All versions have an “Advanced” tab that allow you to track changes made by multiple users.
If you want to share a read-only version with a customer, you can protect the file, as described under Password Protection (p. 2 above), checking the boxes you want to be protected. Or you can chose File > Save As, and save a copy as a PDF to email. That’s probably the easiest, foolproof way to send a read-only copy of your worksheet.

As a custom home builder, working up an accurate budget is not something I look forward to, but this spreadsheet makes a difficult process almost easy. It's very comprehensive, so the chance of me overlooking a line item is almost zero, especially with the customizable version. I even had a client's bank tell me that my budget was more detailed and complete than any they'd seen. And email support is fast and friendly. For my business, this spreadsheet is perfect.
I’ve used this estimator on several jobs in residential and light commercial and like it overall. It’s a big improvement over the home-made spreadsheet I was using and pretty easy to customize. I’ve never found a system that perfectly fits the way I estimate, so I don’t’ mind making the chages I need. I’ve also tried the high-end integrated systems, but they seemed like overkill for my needs and impossible to customize. Right out of the box (well, there is no box), you can be cranking out fast, accurate estimates in no time.
I have been using the free version for awhile, but wanted more flexibility – especially the ability to customize.. I also just wanted to pay something for your work. It is worth much more but I understand it is hard to get consumers to purchase something in today’s web world of freebies. People just don’t understand how much time is involved in creating spreadsheets and compiling pages of content. By the way, thanks for all the work you have put into the site, it is a great resource for builders and consumers as well.
I’ve found the premium version of this estimating program to be a good fit for my remodeling jobs and additions. It’s simple to use and does everything I need. I also do a lot of insurance work where I use Xactimate, the industry standard for insurance repair, Xactimate is great, but overkill for my non-insurance jobs. I recently purchased the Estimating Worksheet and already have found it an invaluable tool. I am a small builder with one full time employee and a number of sub-contractors. Even though I am highly proficient in Excel as you no doubt would be aware that finding the time to create spreadsheets and running the business can be very difficult. The costs involved having an outside contractor come up with what I require in a spreadsheet can be very prohibitive and normally the end product is still not satisfactory. Combining what I have already put together and your spreadsheet gives me a very good base. I also use the Itemized Bid Worksheet master form. It is all that I require since it is an easy matter to fill in the blanks for each part of a project.
I spent a lot of time trying to create my own estimating spreadsheet with mixed success. Have also tried a few of the free ones, but they were buggy.
